Ingredients for Turkey Stew with Peas

  • 14 oz turkey (cut into pieces)
  • 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
  • 1/4 onion
  • 1/2 glass white wine
  • 7 oz peas (frozen or canned)
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 pinch pepper

Tools

What you need to prepare the Turkey Stew with Peas

  • 1 Pan non-stick pan
  • 1 Wooden Spoon wooden spoon

Steps

  • 1. Cut the pieces into small chunks, to the size you prefer, and trim excess fat with the help of a knife. I recommend making chunks of 1 inch each, this will speed up the cooking.
    2. Heat the oil and chopped onion in the pan.
    3. Add the chunks almost immediately and let them sear well, browning them with a pinch of salt and pepper.
    4. Once they are slightly browned, extend with white wine (you can alternatively use water).

  • 5. Once the wine has evaporated, we can add the peas. If using canned peas already cooked, the cooking will be faster. If using frozen peas, you can boil them a bit before adding them to the pan, or extend the cooking with some water.
    6. Lower the heat, cover with the lid, and cook for 15 minutes, stirring. If it becomes too dry, you can extend with some water.
Taste a piece of turkey to check if it’s cooked; generally, it won’t take more than 20 minutes in total.

Of course, yes! Turkey stew is even tastier the next day, as the flavors blend better. You can prepare it in advance and store it in the refrigerator for 2-3 days in an airtight container. To reheat it, just warm it in a pan over low heat with some water or broth to prevent it from drying out.

  • What sides pair best with turkey stew with peas?

For a complete and balanced meal, you can accompany the stew with creamy mashed potatoes or basmati rice. If you prefer a lighter side, opt for a slice of whole grain bread, carrots, or a fresh seasonal salad.
