Hibiscus Tea: Properties and Preparation

Hibiscus tea has diuretic, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties, and it even helps regulate blood pressure. It is obtained from the calyx-shaped flowers of the hibiscus that are widespread in Africa, which are collected and dried.

This special infusion is not as stimulating as tea. The taste of this tea is slightly tart but can be enjoyed even without sugar.

  • Turn on the stovetop. Boil the water for about two minutes. Turn off the flame and let it steep for three to four minutes.

  • In the meantime, wash an orange well and slice it thinly. Place the slices in cups to flavor the drink and pour the hot tea over them.

  • Finally, sweeten the drink with honey or cane sugar as desired, or enjoy it without sweetening as I do. The orange aroma is enough for me to fully appreciate it.

  • The red color of hibiscus tea makes it appealing just to look at, and I assure you it is delightful on the palate and beneficial.

Hibiscus tea can also be flavored differently with lemon, grapefruit, lime, or enjoyed naturally—it is equally good.
