The stuffed piadina cones are an easy, quick recipe to bring a tasty and flavorful dinner to the table for the whole family.
They are suitable for kids’ snacks or for a savory buffet to share with friends.
I filled them with tomato, cooked ham and mozzarella, but if you prepare them for a buffet, you can make different fillings, even cold ones like ricotta and salmon, Philadelphia with prosciutto crudo and arugula.
If you have vegan friends, you can fill them with a mix of cooked vegetables to please everyone’s taste!
To make the stuffed piadina cones, use thin, rollable piadine, cut them in half and form cones that will be baked in the oven to make them crispy.
If you need to make many for a children’s birthday party and want to save time, you can bake them the day before and fill them as needed.
- Portions: 6 Pieces
- Cooking methods: Oven
- Cuisine: Italian
- Seasonality: All seasons
Ingredients
- 3 piadine
- 5.3 oz cooked ham, sliced
- 5.3 oz mozzarella, julienned
- 3/4 cup tomato passata
- to taste salt
- to taste extra virgin olive oil
- to taste oregano
Steps
Cut the piadine in half and roll each half to form a cone; secure with a toothpick.
Brush the cones with a little extra virgin olive oil and place them upside down in a baking tin.
Bake at 392°F for 10 minutes.
Halfway through baking, lay the cones on their sides so they cook evenly, turning them from time to time.
Prepare the tomato passata by adding salt, extra virgin olive oil and oregano.
When the cones have cooled, fill them first with the tomato, then with the cooked ham and finally with the julienned mozzarella.
Bake them a second time upright in a smaller mold so they stay standing at 392°F for 5-6 minutes, just long enough for the mozzarella to become melty and stringy.
The stuffed piadina cones are a versatile and original presentation that resembles an ice cream cone — and why not fill them in a sweet version with mascarpone and Nutella? 😛
