Have you ever tried barley grain porridge? An alternative to the classic oatmeal porridge, cereal porridges give you the opportunity to prepare an equally healthy breakfast using different grains or pseudo-cereals.
Oatmeal porridge has now become a favorite healthy breakfast. In winter, the classic porridge is a comforting breakfast, then with the nice weather, we crave overnight oats, the no-cook porridge. Soak the oats in the evening and add whatever you like in the morning.
It often happens that after cooking our grains for soups and salads, some remain in the fridge. Let’s use them for breakfast, with yogurt, fresh fruit, chopped almonds, and whatever comes to mind. In this case, here is the barley grain porridge, to stay on topic, I poured a cup of barley coffee over it, sweetened with malt.

Ingredients for Barley Grain Porridge
For these porridges, I use ingredients for one person.
- 1/4 cup cooked pearl barley
- 4 tablespoons soy yogurt
- 10 raspberries
- 1 espresso cup coffee (barley)
- 1 teaspoon rice malt
Steps to Prepare Barley Grain Porridge
Simply pour the fruit into a mug or cup, add plenty of yogurt, the cooked barley in layers, finish with a cup of barley coffee, and if you like, add nuts and seeds like chia or flax. If you prefer, warm the barley a little before pouring it into the cup.
Tips and Variations
Prepare your porridge at the last minute, don’t leave it in the fridge already mixed with fruit. Try with buckwheat, millet, or quinoa like the quinoa pudding with pears and walnuts or with teff like the teff and cocoa pudding, you’ll see how delicious.
Naturally, even with brown rice, it’s top-notch, like this one here, but with that, you can also prepare a breakfast based on rice cream, and there too, add whatever you want. Also try the black rice pudding with pear or the matcha tea and strawberry pudding.
