Bright yellow this turmeric sandwich loaf made with a bread machine. Soft and flavorful, with flax and sunflower seeds.
It’s so nice to knead bread at home, to enjoy the aroma and softness, to use ancient grains, semi-whole flours, to add seeds, dried fruit or — as in this case — a spice like turmeric.
This time I was in a hurry so I let my bread machine do everything: program 5 mixed whole bread – 230 minutes total –

Ingredients
- 4 cups type 2 flour (semi-whole)
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 1/4 cups water (warm)
- 1 teaspoon brown sugar
- 1/2 packet instant dry yeast
- 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
- 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
- 2 tablespoons sunflower seeds
- 2 tablespoons flax seeds
Tools
- 1 Bread machine panasonic
Steps
If you use a bread machine, simply add the flour, water, sugar, oil, turmeric and salt. In mine there is a separate compartment to add the seeds and another for the yeast so the machine drops the yeast in later to avoid damaging the gluten structure.
But you can also put everything in together following your machine’s programs.
When the bread is ready, remove the baking pan and take the loaf out immediately, leaving it to cool on a wire rack.
Then place it in a paper bag and then in a plastic bag. You can also turn your sandwich loaf into twice-baked slices; see this whole wheat twice-baked slices with sourdough recipe or see the simple corn bread recipe.
Tips from Timo e Lenticchie
If you prefer to knead by hand try this recipe; instead of making a sandwich loaf portion the dough into rolls.
You can use curry instead of turmeric for a spicier bread or try spirulina, or even garlic or chives. Try adding chopped nuts or raisins to the dough. Or make your bread flavored with thyme and marjoram or sage and rosemary.
