Ingredients

  • as needed chestnuts

Tools

  • Air Fryer
  • Knife

Steps

  • First, choose fresh and good quality chestnuts, preferably large and without imperfections. Rinse them under running water to remove any soil residues, then dry them well with a clean cloth. With a sharp knife, make a cross-cut on the flat side of each chestnut. This small precaution is essential to prevent them from exploding during cooking and to facilitate peeling once cooked.

  • Place the chestnuts in the basket in a single layer, trying not to overlap them too much. Let them cook at 392°F for 10 minutes, turning them halfway through to ensure even cooking. When the chestnuts are ready, you will notice that the shell has lifted, a sign that they are perfect for enjoying.

  • Once cooked, transfer the chestnuts onto a clean cloth

  • Close it well and let them rest for a few minutes: this little trick will make them even easier to peel, keeping the shell moist and the chestnuts soft and flavorful inside.

  • At this point, you can peel them and, if you like, add a pinch of salt to enhance their natural flavor.

Air fryer chestnuts are a practical and quick idea to bring all the flavors of autumn to the table with minimal effort. Perfect for a family evening or as a snack to share with friends, they will make you fall in love with this modern and versatile cooking method. Don’t forget that every fryer can vary slightly, so keep an eye on them to find the perfect cooking time for you!

Storage

Cooked air fryer chestnuts can be stored for 1-2 days at room temperature, closed in an airtight container or a paper bag. If you want to keep them soft, you can store them wrapped in a cotton cloth. To enjoy them hot again, just heat them for a couple of minutes in the air fryer at 356°F.

Tips

Every air fryer has slightly different times and power, so check the cooking after 8 minutes. If you prefer more toasted chestnuts, extend it by a couple of minutes.
Choose chestnuts of similar sizes for even cooking. Larger ones take slightly longer to become soft.
