Ingredients

To prepare the custard cream, you will need these ingredients:

  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract or one sachet of vanilla sugar
  • lemon peel

Use my tools!

To make this recipe, I used some products that I purchased on Amazon and that helped me in making the custard cream:

  • Bowls
  • Whisk

Steps

Here are the steps to follow:

  • In a saucepan, pour the milk, vanilla extract (or vanilla sugar), and the peel of a lemon. Set the saucepan over medium heat and bring the milk just to the boil.

In a bowl, beat the eggs with the sugar until you obtain a light and frothy mixture. Add the sifted cornstarch and mix until it’s completely incorporated.

Slowly pour the hot milk into the mixture, stirring continuously with a whisk to prevent lumps from forming. Pour everything into a clean pot, continue to stir over medium heat until the cream thickens and begins to form bubbles on the surface, it will take about 5 minutes.

When the cream has reached the right consistency, remove the saucepan from the heat and transfer it to a cold glass bowl (that you placed in the freezer shortly before beginning the cream preparation). Stir for a few moments to lower the cream’s temperature, cover with plastic wrap in contact with the surface of the cream to prevent a crust from forming on the surface.

Let the custard cream cool at room temperature, then transfer it to the refrigerator for at least 3 hours before using it.

There you go! Your custard cream is ready to be used in numerous dessert recipes. Have fun in the kitchen!

Tips

After resting in the fridge, the cream will be thick, whisk it to make it creamy again!
