Let’s prepare the monstrously beautiful Halloween mummy tart!
In a bowl, mix flour and cold butter until you achieve a sandy texture. Add powdered sugar, egg, lemon zest, and a teaspoon of vanilla extract to give a delicate fragrance to the base of your dessert. Quickly knead until you obtain a compact and homogeneous dough, which you will let rest in the refrigerator wrapped in cling film for at least half an hour. This step is essential to make the shortcrust pastry flaky and easy to work with.
After resting, roll out the pastry on a lightly floured surface. Use part of the pastry to line the greased and floured loaf pan, piercing the base with a fork to prevent it from puffing up during baking. At this point, you can fill the tart with a generous layer of jam: for a “bloody” touch, if you like, choose a jam with an intense color, such as strawberry or cherry. I chose apricot jam that my children love. The sweetness of the jam will perfectly match the crunchiness of the pastry.
Now comes the fun part: create the mummy’s bandages! Roll out the remaining pastry and cut thin strips, which you will place randomly over the jam. The effect should be that of a “bandaged” mummy, so don’t strive for perfection: the more randomly the strips are placed, the better.
Bake everything in a preheated static oven at 350°F for about 25-30 minutes, or until the pastry has a nice golden color.Let the tart cool before removing it from the mold, add between the strips the small meringues decorated with a dot of dark chocolate to mimic the mummy eyes peeking out from the bandages, bringing your tart to life and serve it to your guests.
This jam tart is not only scenic but also delicious. The contrast between the flakiness of the pastry and the sweetness of the jam makes it a perfect dessert for any occasion, but with the Halloween theme, it becomes a sweet that will definitely be talked about.
Happy Halloween and have fun in the kitchen! This mummy-themed tart will amaze everyone with its cute appearance and irresistible taste!
