How to prepare Spider Cookies
Start by working the softened butter with the sugar, using an electric mixer to achieve a soft and creamy mixture. Add the egg and vanilla extract, continuing to mix until a homogeneous mixture is obtained. At this point, add the sifted flour and a pinch of salt. Work the dough until it has a smooth and compact consistency. Wrap it in plastic wrap and let it rest in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes.
After the dough has cooled, take small portions and form balls with your hands. Place the balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, and with your thumb, slightly press the center of each ball to create a cavity. This will be the space where the spider’s body will be placed.
Preheat the oven to 350°F and bake the cookies for about 10-12 minutes. Check that the edges become golden, while the center should remain slightly soft. Once cooked, let them cool completely on a rack before proceeding with the decoration.
Melt the dark chocolate in a double boiler and transfer it to a piping bag with a very thin tip. With the melted chocolate, draw the spider legs starting from the center of the cookie.
Place a milk chocolate praline in the center of each cookie, in the created cavity, to form the spider’s body. Fix it with a small amount of melted chocolate. To complete the decoration, use meringues for the eyes. Add a small dot of melted dark chocolate in the center of the eyes to create the pupils, making your spiders even more realistic.
Let the chocolate solidify completely before serving the cookies.
