  • 4.2 cups water
  • 2 bags black tea
  • 1/3 cup lemon juice
  • 2/3 cup sugar

Tools

  • Saucepan

Steps for Homemade Lemon Iced Tea

  • Bring 1 liter (or 4.2 cups) of water to a boil in a saucepan.
Turn off the heat, immerse the tea bags, and let them brew for 5 minutes.
Remove the bags and immediately add the sugar (or honey). Stir well until it is completely dissolved.
When the tea is lukewarm, add the juice from a fresh lemon (about 1/3 cup) strained through a sieve.
Pour the tea into a 1-liter (or 4.2 cups) glass bottle.
Add a few slices of lemon with the peel (well washed) and, if you like, mint leaves or ginger.
Close the bottle and let it cool in the fridge for at least 2 hours.
Serve very cold, with ice and a lemon slice for garnish!

Storage of Lemon Iced Tea

Homemade lemon iced tea can be stored in the refrigerator for 2-3 days in a well-sealed bottle. I recommend adding the lemon slices just before serving if you want to avoid too bitter a taste over time.

Tips

Adding fresh lemon juice when the tea is lukewarm retains all the aroma and vitamin C.
Add a pinch of baking soda (just a little!) if you want even clearer tea.

FAQ (Questions and Answers)

  • Can I use pre-squeezed lemon juice?

Better not. Freshly squeezed juice gives a much more natural and fragrant taste.

  • What is the best tea to use?

Classic black tea or Earl Grey for a strong flavor, green tea for a more delicate and detox version.
