Ingredients for one mug (about 300 ml)

  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 tablespoon sunflower oil
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
  • Half teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon hazelnut spread

Tools

  • Microwave
  • Mug

Steps: How to prepare the mug cake

  • Directly in the mug, mix the egg with the sugar.
Add the oil and milk and mix with a fork or small whisk.
Incorporate the flour, unsweetened cocoa, and baking powder, continuing to mix until you get a smooth and homogeneous batter.

  • Pour the batter into the mug, filling it up to 2/3 (no more, or it may overflow during cooking).
Place a generous tablespoon of hazelnut spread in the center, without stirring.
Cook in the microwave at full power (800W) for 1 minute and 30 seconds. If you want a creamier center, cook for 1 minute and 10 seconds.
Let it rest for 1-2 minutes before enjoying!

Bonus trick (if you want to go big)
After cooking, make a hole in the center with a teaspoon and insert some fresh hazelnut spread. The hot-cold contrast will be even more delicious and visible.

Tips and Variations of the Mug Cake

• Without eggs: replace them with 2 tablespoons of plain or plant-based yogurt.
• Lighter? Use whole cane sugar and plant-based milk.
• Express decoration: dust with powdered sugar, add chopped hazelnuts, or a bit of whipped cream.

Storage

This mug cake should be eaten immediately. It is not suitable for storage as it loses its softness within a few hours.

FAQ (Questions and Answers)

  • Can I use any mug in the microwave?

Only if it is without metallic decorations, heat-resistant, and suitable for microwave cooking (like ceramic or tempered glass).

  • Does the hazelnut spread mug cake really get so fluffy in such a short time?

Yes! The microwave quickly cooks the batter, leaving a fluffy interior and a creamy center if you don’t overcook it.

  • Can it be made without baking powder?

You can omit it, but the texture will be denser and less airy.
