The portobello mushroom steak is a flavorful and tasty side dish that you can also serve as a main course if you’re looking for a meat alternative, perhaps paired with polenta. It’s a very simple dish to prepare, and you can cook the mushrooms either in a pan or in an air fryer; the recipe provides both instructions.
I used portobello mushrooms because they are very large, meaty, and firm, making them perfect for this preparation. I seasoned them with garlic, oil, and parsley, but you can use the herbs you prefer.

Steps for Portobello Mushroom Steak
First, clean the mushrooms by removing dirt with a brush or damp cloth, then remove the end of the stem.
Cook them in an oiled pan for 15 minutes, turning them halfway through cooking, or in an air fryer at 356°F for the same time, turning halfway through. They should be tender but still firm, not mushy.
Meanwhile, prepare the dressing by placing the oil, garlic powder (or chopped garlic if you prefer), and parsley in a small bowl, then mix well.
Slice the mushrooms to your desired thickness, salt them, and place them on a plate. Add the dressing and serve immediately.
