Puff Pastry Christmas Tree with Sun-Dried Tomatoes and Olives

Puff pastry Christmas tree with sun-dried tomatoes and olives, a simple and quick Christmas appetizer to prepare, yet very scenic. Perfect for the holiday table, you can make it with ready-made puff pastry or try making homemade puff pastry.

There are many appetizers that can be prepared with puff pastry: my favorites are cheese breadsticks, savoury pastries with zucchini and pecorino, and salmon croissants.

You can pair this puff pastry appetizer with jelly canapés, prune and bacon rolls, and seafood salad, to bring a variety of appetizers to the table.

It’s an appetizer that can be prepared quickly and you can change the filling according to your tastes.

Puff Pastry Christmas Tree with Sun-Dried Tomatoes and Olives
  • Difficulty: Very Easy
  • Cost: Very Economical
  • Cooking methods: Oven
  • Cuisine: Italian
  • Seasonality: Christmas

Ingredients

  • 2 sheets puff pastry (rectangular)
  • 10 sun-dried tomatoes
  • 15 olives
  • 1 tbsp capers
  • 2 tbsps grated Grana Padano
  • 4 tbsps tomato sauce

Steps: Puff Pastry Christmas Tree with Sun-Dried Tomatoes and Olives

  • First, blend sun-dried tomatoes, olives, grated cheese, capers, and tomato sauce until you get a cream.

Now, unroll a sheet of puff pastry and spread it with the cream obtained. Cover it with the other sheet and press slightly to make it adhere well.
At this point, with a knife, cut the pastry into the shape of a tree, forming a triangle and leaving the base of the trunk attached. Remove the excess pastry and set it aside.

Now make horizontal cuts to the right and left to create the branches and roll the strips onto themselves. Make small incisions in the central part (you can skip this if you prefer) and bake the tree in a preheated oven at 350°F for 20-25 minutes.

Don’t throw away the leftover parts, but cut them into pieces and bake them to make more snacks.
