Puff Pastry Stars with Pesto

Puff Pastry Stars with Pesto, very simple and quick snacks to prepare, perfect for Christmas tables. The idea for this appetizer came to me when I made the Puff Pastry Stars with Nutella, sweets that are prepared in a flash and were so loved that I decided to use the same procedure but in a savory version.

I used pre-rolled puff pastry, but if you prefer, you can also make Puff Pastry at home. It’s a bit time-consuming, but if you organize with the resting times, it’s worth it. With these quantities, I got 35 stars, made small enough to eat in one bite.

How to Prepare Puff Pastry Stars with Pesto

  • Preparing these snacks is really easy; start by unrolling the puff pastry. Spread the pesto on half of the pastry and fold it over, pressing lightly to make it stick.

Cut the stars, trying to leave little space between each one.

Place the stars slightly apart on a baking tray with parchment paper and add the trimmed parts too, they’re not as pretty to look at but just as good to eat!

  • Bake the Puff Pastry Stars with Pesto in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C), in convection mode for about 16 minutes if you make them as small as mine. If they’re a bit larger, increase the baking time by 4 minutes. Let them cool completely before serving the Puff Pastry Stars with Pesto.

FAQ

  • I don’t have a star cookie cutter, can I still make them?

Yes, certainly. You can use another shape or simply cut the pastry into squares.

  • What can I use instead of pesto?

You can replace the pesto with olive tapenade, pistachio pesto, or an artichoke or onion cream that you can find ready-made at the supermarket.
