Spiny Dogfish in Marinara Sauce

Today’s recipe is a fish main course: spiny dogfish in marinara sauce!

The spiny dogfish is a saltwater fish belonging to the shark family, with a delicate flavor and tender flesh. It has only one central bone, making it very easy to ‘debone,’ and is perfect for many preparations. Ideal for frying or stewing, today I present a version in tomato sauce.

The spiny dogfish is usually sold already cleaned, skinned, and gutted because its skin is difficult to remove. Also for this reason, it is very simple and quick to prepare, allowing you to serve a tasty fish that everyone will appreciate, both adults and children.

This excellent and fragrant main dish will delight your taste buds, and before enjoying it, you can serve an appetizer made with stuffed zucchini flowers, a spaghetti with clams or sagnette with chickpeas and fish, then conclude with a soft pumpkin cake or delicious chocolate brownies. Don’t forget to prepare some fragrant homemade bread for a perfect accompaniment.

Let’s see step by step how to make this recipe.

Ingredients

  • 1.75 lbs fish (spiny dogfish)
  • 3 tbsps olive oil
  • 1 bunch parsley
  • 1 3/4 cups tomato sauce
  • 1/4 cup white wine
  • to taste fine salt
  • 1 clove garlic

Tools

  • 1 Scale
  • 1 Cutting board
  • 1 Knife
  • 1 Pan

Let’s Prepare Spiny Dogfish in Marinara Sauce Together

  • Since the fish is already cleaned, we can start our preparation with the marinara sauce by washing and thoroughly drying the parsley, then placing it on a cutting board and finely chopping it together with a peeled garlic clove.

  • In a non-stick pan, pour the tomato sauce, olive oil, and add the chopped parsley. Let the tomato sauce cook for five minutes over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally.

Meanwhile, while the sauce is cooking, cut the spiny dogfish into slices about 3 inches long.

  • Pour the white wine into the tomato sauce and let the alcohol evaporate, then place the fish slices in the sauce and cook for 5-6 minutes. Turn the fish pieces, adjust the salt, and finish the cooking. If the sauce thickens too much, add a little water.

  • Serve the spiny dogfish in marinara sauce hot and steaming, perhaps accompanied by a nice slice of bread and a nice glass of wine.
