Today’s savory recipe: whole wheat crazy dough with oil or whole wheat shortcrust without butter.
This dough is perfect for making savory pies but also simple crackers or savory snacks, perhaps sprinkling them with spices, herbs, or adding seeds.
I often prepare delicious rustic pies both for parties and to offer to my guests during the aperitif, but also for dinner, filling them with healthy vegetables. I like to vary both the filling, which can range from the classic ricotta and spinach to zucchini and ham, and I also love changing the outer dough and using puff pastry, savory shortcrust, crazy dough or shortcrust.
This time I made a kind of easy and quick shortcrust but with whole wheat flour and without butter, using olive oil instead. We could call it whole wheat crazy dough. The whole wheat dough is rich in fiber and healthier and lighter than the classic one, a great ally for our health.
I used my small stand mixer to knead but you can easily do it on a work surface or in a bowl, it takes really just a few minutes to make it. Without butter, it can be used immediately without resting in the fridge, though I recommend doing so to make it more elastic and easier to work with.
Let’s see together, step by step, how to make this recipe.
