The heart of this star-shaped almond and Sicilian orange cake has a very soft surprise, apples. Naturally, in the kitchen, there are no limits to creativity, and today I wanted to combine two types of cakes; almond cake and apple pie. Ingredients
- 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 7 tbsps butter
- 2 eggs
- 2/3 cup whole milk
- 1 packet baking powder
- 1 orange (zest grated)
- 1 packet vanilla
- 1/2 oz almonds
- 1 tsp powdered sugar
- 1/3 oz hazelnut pieces
- 2 Golden apples
Tools
- Stand Mixer
- Spatula
- Grater
- Mold star-shaped
Preparation
Peel the apples and cut them into small pieces.
Grate the zest of the orange, preferably organic, and add it along with the vanilla to the mixture.
Add the apples.
With a spatula, gently fold the apples into the batter without deflating it.
After combining all the ingredients, pour the mixture into the star-shaped mold.
Sprinkle granulated sugar on top of the batter, dust with powdered sugar along with hazelnut pieces and almonds. Bake at 350°F for 35 minutes.

CHRISTMAS 2020

Can I replace the almonds with hazelnuts?
Yes, of course. Replacing the hazelnuts instead of almonds does not change the dessert significantly, maybe just a bit in flavor.
