Fish Appetizers

Fish appetizers can be said to be the most important part of the meal as they represent the calling card for the dishes to follow. Until some time ago, the appetizer was meant to precede the lunch, but over time our eating habits have changed, and appetizers have become the stars of our table, even replacing first and second courses, becoming more and more unique dishes.

  • Difficulty: Easy
  • Cost: Medium
  • Preparation time: 15 Minutes
  • Portions: 4
  • Cooking methods: Stovetop
  • Cuisine: Italian
  • 1.1 lbs anchovies
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 0.35 cups cherry tomatoes
  • 1.3 tbsps extra virgin olive oil
  • 0.15 oz salt
  • to taste parsley

Preparation

  • Crab meat and chickpeas, a quick and tasty appetizer. Slice the crab meat thinly and mix it with chickpeas, season it with salt, vinegar, and extra virgin olive oil. If you have flax seeds, sesame seeds, or other seeds at home, add a bit. I used poppy seeds, which I often use for making bread.

  • The term ‘carpione’ refers more to the type of preservation than the preparation method. After flouring and frying the fish, it is marinated with various aromas (bay leaf, sage, carrots, celery) in 1/4 water and 3/4 vinegar for at least one day. Marinated smelt cannot be missing from the Christmas table as an appetizer; its tangy flavor whets the appetite.

  • I assure you that of all the fish appetizers, this one is my favorite. All you need is a can of tuna in olive oil, a tube of mayonnaise, and the main ingredient that should not be missing: The kiwi. A successful combination! Try it. This tuna mousse spread on slices of toasted bread is really delicious.

  • Herring in sour cream with dill. A dish with really strong flavors starting with the smoked herring, but if well balanced, it can be an excellent fish appetizer. You can find ready-to-use, cleaned, and desalted herring on the market, saving you the whole preparation and cleaning process. Assemble the herring with sour cream and sprigs of dill, and the dish is ready!

  • Anchovy rolls with breadcrumbs and cherry tomatoes. Clean and debone the anchovies, prepare fresh breadcrumbs and season them with salt, oil, parsley, chopped cherry tomatoes, and garlic. Prepare the rolls and bake them in the oven for 15 minutes at 375°F

  • Small octopuses with cannellini beans and parsley. Nothing could be easier; even canned cannellini beans are fine to simplify and shorten the times. Cook the octopuses in a pressure cooker with half a glass of white wine, extra virgin olive oil, salt, half a clove of garlic, and parsley. When they are warm, add the beans, and the dish is ready!

in cucina con pina

My name is Pina, and my passion is food and cooking in general. On the blog, I focus on regional dishes like those from my birthplace, Sicily. I also feature dishes from Lazio, the region that has hosted me for over 40 years, but in general, I cover all Italian regions. Traveling and exploring is my second passion, so I couldn't leave out dishes from around the "World" on my blog. My blog is divided into simple and essential sections like appetizers, first courses, main courses, side dishes, bread and leavened products, jams and preserves, wines and wineries, and of course, travels. Desserts are included, and finally, there is a dedicated corner for gluten-free options. Easy recipes, explained step by step and always updated.
