Fish Ball Appetizer

Fish ball appetizer for many occasions, maybe even to get kids to eat fish, or the Christmas Eve appetizer is really a good occasion to prepare it. To prepare this fish ball appetizer, I conveniently and safely used cod fillet, but you can also use other types of fish, such as hake or sea bream. I preferred to choose already cleaned and boneless cod fillets to avoid unpleasant inconveniences, like finding bones in your mouth.

Ingredients

  • 5.3 oz cod
  • 5.3 oz potatoes
  • 1 lemon (juice and zest)
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp chopped parsley
  • 1 pinch paprika
  • 1.8 oz spaghetti
  • 1 oz flour
  • 1 cup cup peanut oil (for frying)
  • to taste salt

Tools

  • Bowl
  • Pot
  • Pan
  • Tongs
  • 2 Plates
  • Grater

Steps

  • I microwaved the cod fillet for 10 minutes and separately did the same for the potatoes. If you want, you can boil both the potatoes for 15 minutes and the cod (but always separately).

  • In a bowl, mash the cooked potatoes and cod with a fork,

  • add the lemon juice and grated zest,

  • set the yolk aside and add only the egg white to the mixture.

  • Obviously, adjust the salt and season with paprika and chopped parsley

  • Form balls of 20 g each, and with these ingredients, you’ll make at least 15

  • Boil the spaghetti, drain them halfway through cooking, and let them cool. Coat the fish balls in flour and then dip them in the yolk set aside.

  • Wrap 3 spaghetti strands around the fish balls

  • After wrapping the spaghetti around the fish balls, dip them in the yolk or use a silicone kitchen brush to coat the yolk around the balls.

  • Deep fry two fish balls at a time to prevent the spaghetti from breaking

  • And here they are ready, serve your fish ball appetizer while still hot

My name is Pina, and my passion is food and cooking in general. On the blog, I focus on regional dishes like those from my birthplace, Sicily. I also feature dishes from Lazio, the region that has hosted me for over 40 years, but in general, I cover all Italian regions. Traveling and exploring is my second passion, so I couldn't leave out dishes from around the "World" on my blog. My blog is divided into simple and essential sections like appetizers, first courses, main courses, side dishes, bread and leavened products, jams and preserves, wines and wineries, and of course, travels. Desserts are included, and finally, there is a dedicated corner for gluten-free options. Easy recipes, explained step by step and always updated.
