The bagels are a typical American specialty, known worldwide for their donut shape and characteristic soft inside and crunchy outside taste, to be enjoyed plain or filled.

Great for breakfast, the bagels are also perfect for birthday parties or a simple and genuine snack, especially if you prepare them at home with my recipe.

Bagels are a cross between donuts and pretzels, similar in dough and texture but not in shape, and they are delicious to fill with cold cuts and cheese.

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2/3 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tsp fresh yeast
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • to taste sesame seeds

Steps

  • Dissolve the yeast in the water, pour the flour into a bowl, add the salt, the sugar and mix.

  • Then gradually add the water and knead, the dough is very soft, do not add flour, leave it sticky, place it in the bowl covered with plastic wrap and let it rest for 1 hour and 30 minutes.

  • After the time has passed, divide the dough into 5-6 pieces, make balls then insert your fingers in the center and stretch to form the donuts.

  • Let them rest on an oiled or floured baking sheet and let them rest for 30 minutes covered with a cloth.

  • After the time has passed, bring water to a boil in a pot, add a little oil and honey.

  • Cook the donuts, turning them only once for 45 seconds, then drain on a plate and let them rest for a couple of minutes.

  • Place sesame seeds or mixed seeds on a plate and lay the donuts on it, then arrange them on the baking sheet lined with paper.

  • Bake and cook in the hot oven at 390°F for 20-25 minutes.
