Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • lemon zest
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 1 tsp fresh yeast

Steps

  • Pour the flour into a bowl, add the sugar, lemon zest, softened butter, crumbled yeast, and the milk little by little, mix to dissolve the yeast.

  • Add a pinch of salt and the rest of the milk, continuing to mix.

  • Knead well, if needed add a sprinkle of flour, form a ball and let it rest in the bowl covered with plastic wrap.

  • Let it rest until it doubles in size, about 3 hours.

  • Once risen, divide the dough into 12 or 16 pieces, roll out each piece and make rectangles, fill with Nutella and roll up.

  • Join the rolls two by two and twist them together, place them on the oven tray lined with paper, brush with an egg yolk, add some sugar sprinkles, and let rest for 20 minutes.

  • Preheat the oven to 356°F (180°C) or you can use the air fryer, bake at 347°F (175°C) for 12 minutes, turn them and bake also on the other side for about 2 more minutes, check the air fryer from time to time.

  • Alternatively, bake in the hot oven at 356°F (180°C) for about 15 minutes.
