Perfect to serve after lunch or as an indulgent snack, this recipe is also very easy to customize: add dark chocolate, chopped hazelnuts or coconut flakes to make it even more tempting.

Ingredients

  • 5 eggs
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup cake flour (soft flour for cakes — the one you usually use) (soft flour for cakes, the one you usually use)
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 7 oz Nutella® (about 3/4 cup)
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 2 tbsp powdered sugar
  • 4 oz strawberries (about 3/4 cup sliced)

Steps

  • Whisk the yolks with the sugar until you obtain a light, fluffy and pale mixture; whip the egg whites with a pinch of salt, then gently fold the two mixtures together by hand with a spatula.

  • Gradually incorporate the sifted flour and pour the batter into a pan about 9 x 13 in, then level it well.

  • Bake at 338°F (170°C) for 10-12 minutes, then let cool completely.
    Trace the outlines of two bell shapes and cut them out with a straight-edged knife.

  • Spread a layer of Nutella on the base bell. Whip the cream with the powdered sugar, add chopped strawberries and pipe or spread the cream over the Nutella using a piping bag.

  • Cover with the other disc, dust with powdered sugar, add strawberries and chopped or shaved chocolate. Store in the fridge until serving.
