- Cuisine: Italian
- Seasonality: All seasons
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 puff pastry
- 7 oz mozzarella
- as needed tomato sauce
- 3.5 oz cooked ham
- 1/2 tsp compressed yeast
Steps
The puff pastry is optional but I assure you the swirls are superb.
You can reduce the amount of yeast if you prefer and increase the resting time.
Dissolve the yeast in the milk, gradually add the flour, the yolk, the salt, knead until the dough is well combined, form a ball and let it rise until doubled, about 4 hours.
After rising, take the dough and roll it out on a floured work surface.
Brush with tomato sauce and oil, add the mozzarella cut into thin slices or grated with a large-hole grater.
Place the puff pastry on top, trim the excess edges, fill with tomato sauce and oil, ham slices, and mozzarella pieces.
Roll it up and cut into swirls about 1.5 inches, place them on a baking sheet to rest for about twenty minutes.
Preheat the oven to 356°F
Bake the swirls and cook for about 20-25 minutes, keep an eye on the oven.
Bon appétit
