SARDINIAN CARNIVAL SWEET MERAVIGLIAS with Thermomix or without, grandmother’s original recipe, typical fried carnival sweets, honey, orange or lemon scented in hand shape or classic carnival chiacchiere.

The sweet meraviglias are typical Sardinian carnival sweets that change name depending on the area, they are delicious and can be enjoyed either with bitter honey and citrus peel or sprinkled with powdered sugar.

The recipe for sweet meraviglias is very simple, taken from a typical Sardinian cookbook, it is the same as my Sardinian grandmother’s, of course. They are made in the shape of small hands or with cookie cutters, or in the form of classic lozenges, strictly fried as my grandmother did.

They are very good, crunchy, and tasty, perfect with bitter honey and citrus peels, but if you don’t have time, sprinkle them with powdered sugar.

SARDINIAN CARNIVAL SWEET MERAVIGLIAS with Thermomix or without

Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 4 tbsp honey
  • 5 orange zest (or lemon)

Steps

  • Pour the ingredients into a bowl and knead well.

  • Then take the dough and roll it out on a lightly floured surface.

  • Cut the dough with a fluted wheel into hand shapes or use cookie cutters or create classic lozenges, or you can make cords, fold them in two, and twist them on themselves.

  • Then fry in hot oil.

  • Then let them drain on kitchen paper.

  • You can sprinkle them with powdered sugar or dissolve the honey in a saucepan with grated lemon or orange peel and then pour it over the sweets.

  • With the THERMOMIX: Place all the ingredients in the bowl, speed 5, time 20 seconds
