Super Soft Donuts with Dry Yeast

Delicious super soft donuts made with dry yeast because fresh yeast was unavailable for a few days and in some parts of Italy it is still hard to find.

The recipe for super soft donuts is very simple, the dough can be made easily by hand or with a mixer if you prefer, it is allowed to rest and then shaped using a glass or by making rolls, I prefer them this way.

Good fried or baked, of course, the outer appearance changes, but they are excellent both ways.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups All-purpose flour (or whatever you have at home)
  • Half packet Dry yeast (baker's yeast or 6 grams of fresh yeast)
  • 1 cup Milk
  • 1 Egg
  • 2/3 cup Sugar
  • Lemon zest
  • Half packet Vanillin
  • 2 tbsp Butter (or oil)

Preparation

  • Dissolve the yeast in the milk, place the flour in a bowl and add the yeast, mixing with a fork.

  • Add the vanillin, sugar, egg, and butter or oil.

  • Add the grated lemon zest and knead well.

  • Form a ball and let it rise in a bowl covered with plastic wrap for 3-4 hours, until doubled.

  • After the time has passed, take the dough and break it into 10-15 pieces.

  • Make rolls and close them into donuts or roll out the dough on parchment paper and cut with a glass, then use a plastic cap for the hole in the center.

  • Let rest for 30 minutes.

  • Heat the oil and fry the donuts until golden, drain, and roll in granulated sugar.

  • If you want to bake them, bake at 350°F with fan for 15 minutes.
