Sweet Chocolate Carnival Pudding

SWEET CHOCOLATE CARNIVAL PUDDING, a typical Neapolitan recipe, easy and quick, a delicious and creamy spoon dessert.

The Sweet Chocolate Carnival Pudding is a culinary treasure from the Campania and Ciociaria gastronomic traditions, a sweet dish that enchants with its history and delights with its rich flavor. This dessert has become a true icon of the Carnival festivities, bringing an atmosphere of joy and authentic taste.

The preparation of the Pudding is a ritual involving simple yet skillfully combined ingredients. Cocoa, sugar, milk, and flour are the main elements that, when expertly blended, create a velvety and enveloping cream. The peculiarity of the name derives from the tradition of using pig’s blood, now replaced with more accessible ingredients.

It is now forbidden to use pig’s blood. As a child, I remember that during the Carnival period when we visited the “pig uncle,” as we called him, Uncle Giuseppe, my grandfather’s brother, he would prepare the pudding, but I never liked it.

The Sweet Chocolate Carnival Pudding captivates the palate with its silky texture and the enveloping taste of chocolate. Its balanced sweetness perfectly complements the intense aroma of cocoa, creating a unique experience that delights the senses.

This dessert has become an indispensable presence during the Carnival festivities, a symbol of sharing and joy.

Every family has its variant of the Pudding, with some adding ingredients like vanilla, cinnamon, or liquor to personalize the flavor. This versatility allows the recipe to be adapted to individual taste preferences.

I prefer it with cinnamon, but it is also excellent with coffee liqueur or anise.
