Jaguar Meat (Brazil)

Officially declared in 2016 as a cultural heritage of the intangible nature of Curitiba (state of Paraná), the jaguar meat is the typical dish of Curitiba.

Contrary to popular belief, it is not jaguar meat (onça), but rather simple lean meat (usually patinho, alcatra or filet mignon), presented on slices of “broa preta, seasoned with pepper, salt, lime, white onion, and scallion (very thinly sliced).

It is among the top ten raw meat dishes in the world.

  • to taste extra virgin olive oil
  • 4 slices dark bread

Steps

  • Mix the ingredients, except the scallion, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.

    Serve the meat on slices of dark bread, accompanied by scallion and, if desired, a spoonful of mustard and extra virgin olive oil.
