The chili pepper was imported from South America by Christopher Columbus after his arrival in 1492. Initially, it was used as an ornamental plant in royal gardens but soon became one of the most used spices to flavor dishes.

The Scotch Bonnet Scotch Bonnet is found at the top of the Scoville scale, the international unit that classifies the spiciness of chili peppers, with about 120,000 – 160,000 SHU (Scoville Heat Units).

It is characterized by a sweet, exotic fruit flavor.
