The Kodomo no Hi Festival:
On May 5th, in Japan it is Kodomo no Hi (こどもの日).
🙋♀️Traditional children’s day, a wish for physical and spiritual strength, healthy growth, and success in the future.
▶It is customary to hang koinobori (鯉のぼり) 🎏, colorful carp made of paper or cloth, flying against the wind, just like carp swimming upstream, wishing strength and tenacity for the children.
▶It is also customary to display warrior dolls, the kabuto ningyo, equipped with traditional helmet (kabuto) and armor, evoking the ancient warrior spirit of the samurai.
▶For this occasion, kashiwa mochi, sweets filled and covered with an oak leaf, and chimaki, sweet glutinous rice rolls steamed and wrapped in bamboo leaves, are consumed.
