ORIGINAL MULLED WINE RECIPE FROM THE CHRISTMAS MARKETS

The mulled wine, also known as Glühwein, is a hot alcoholic beverage mostly consumed in Northern European countries to better face the cold days. It’s a fragrant drink, typical of Christmas markets. A comfort to fight the cold and seasonal ailments.

Easy and quick to prepare. For the wine, choose a full-bodied wine with an alcohol content of about 13° such as Barolo or Pinot Noir.

Thanks to the slow cooking, the wine will lose much of its alcoholic component, and if you want a beverage with a lower alcohol content, you can let it simmer for at least half an hour. You can also use it as a digestive or accompany it with roasted chestnuts or various cookies.

The term vin brulé means (from French) burnt wine. Its origins date back to ancient Greece, reaching the Romans who drank a beverage based on wine sweetened with honey, heated and flavored with saffron, pepper, nard leaves, and dates.
