Ingredients
- 1 sheet puff pastry (round)
- 9 oz asparagus
- 4 slices cooked ham (if small, 8)
- 4 slices scamorza cheese
- to taste salt
- to taste pepper
- to taste extra virgin olive oil
- to taste sesame and poppy seeds (optional)
- 1 egg yolk (for brushing)
- to taste milk (for brushing)
Steps
Start by thoroughly washing the asparagus and cutting off the tougher, woody part of the stem. Boil the asparagus in water for about 2-4 minutes once the water returns to a boil.
Drain the asparagus and season with oil, salt, and pepper.
Take the puff pastry, unroll it, and cut it into 4 equal wedges with a knife.
In the center of each wedge, place a slice of cooked ham, a slice of scamorza cheese, and a few asparagus, with the tips slightly sticking out of the pastry edge.
Close the wedge by pulling up the two outer sides, seal, and then create cannoli with a fan shape.
Combine the egg yolk with a little milk in a glass, beat with a fork, and brush this mixture over the cannoli using a kitchen brush.
Optionally sprinkle sesame or poppy seeds on top and bake in the oven at 375-390°F for about 25-30 minutes or cook them in an air fryer at 356°F for about 20 minutes.
Once cooked, let the cannoli cool for 5 minutes on a rack before serving them at the table.
