I had seen these mini cookies on Instagram and was immediately captivated by their simplicity: delicious little bites, perfect for winter. I decided to make them too, but with an extra touch: I added orange zest and juice to fragrance them and make them even more irresistible. This is how these mini orange and chocolate cookies were born, fragrant, aromatic, and perfect to give as a gift at Christmas or to enjoy next to a steaming cup of hot chocolate on cold winter afternoons. 🎄🍊🍫
After baking, I thought of decorating them with squiggles of dark chocolate and tiny pieces of candied orange peel….slurp!

Still on the subject of cookie recipes to give as gifts, here are some more ideas just below:
- Difficulty: Easy
- Cost: Cheap
- Rest time: 30 Minutes
- Preparation time: 15 Minutes
- Portions: 14 Pieces
- Cooking methods: Oven
- Cuisine: Italian
- Seasonality: All Seasons
Ingredients
- 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 3 tbsp butter (cold in pieces)
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
- 1.5 oz dark chocolate (coarsely chopped)
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 orange (organic, only grated zest)
- 1 tbsp orange juice (only juice)
- 1/4 tsp baking powder
- as needed dark chocolate
- as needed candied orange peel
Tools
- Baking Trays
- Parchment Paper
Steps
Mix flour, powdered sugar, grated orange zest, juice, and salt in a bowl.
Add cold butter and work with fingertips until crumbly.Add chopped chocolate and mix gently
Shape into balls about 10g and place spaced on a baking tray with parchment paper without flattening them too much.
Place the tray in the fridge for 20–30 minutes.Bake in a static oven at 340°F for 15/18 minutes but always depending on the home oven.
Let the cookies cool on the tray for 15 minutes before moving them.If you want to decorate them like I did, melt some dark chocolate and, after dipping a fork, let it fall on the mini cookies randomly and then add a few pieces of candied orange peel to enhance the flavor.
They are very tasty, also great as a gift for the upcoming holidays and the combination of CHOCOLATE AND ORANGE is top-notch!
Enjoy your meal! Annalisa
Storage
Store the cookies in an airtight container or tin for 7–8 days.
