Serbian Bread

Serbian bread is a leavened product mainly spectacular in appearance due to its ring shape and very simple to make.
A very soft bread that resembles brioche bread, the softness is mainly due to the milk in the dough and the butter applied on the surface when assembling the bread.
The surface of this bread is enriched with sesame seeds and I must say I really like them on various kinds of bread, and particularly on this one.
The idea of layering all the small pizzas one on top of the other, I must say, is a really nice idea to make other kinds of recipes too, but in this one, it’s its peculiarity.
I hope you like this bread as much as I did, beyond the fact that I am particularly attracted to international recipes.
You will just need a little patience for the rising time, which will take a few hours, but the result is truly exceptional … try it!
If you make this or any of my other recipes on my blog, feel free to send me your photos, and I will post them on my Facebook page in your name.

Serbian Bread
  • Difficulty: Easy
  • Cost: Economical
  • Preparation time: 20 Minutes
  • Portions: 13 slices
  • Cooking methods: Electric oven
  • Cuisine: European
  • Seasonality: All seasons

Ingredients for making Serbian Bread

  • 0.35 oz fresh brewer's yeast
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2.75 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 3.5 tbsp butter
  • sesame seeds
  • 1 Springform pan springform pan

Preparation of Serbian Bread

  • First, in a bowl, put yeast, sugar, and milk and let it dissolve for about 20 minutes.

Then add the flour, salt, and mix everything well until you get a smooth and homogeneous dough.

Place the dough in a bowl and cover it with cling film, let it rise until it doubles.

  • Meanwhile, melt the butter and set it aside.

Once risen, pour the risen dough onto a work surface, I formed a sausage and divided it into 13 equal parts, then I formed small pizzas about 3 inches in diameter.

  • Take a pan of 10-11 inches in diameter and butter it, place the first small pizza, brush it with butter, overlap the second, brush it with butter, continue like this until you create a closed circle.

Let it rise again for about an hour and until it doubles.

  • Once risen, sprinkle with sesame seeds and bake in a hot oven at 356°F for about 30 minutes.

Once cooked, let it cool and serve.

My name is Francesca Mele, and "Lo scrigno del buongusto" is the name of my blog. I am a true Abruzzese, and after several years with a cooking website, I decided to start a blog. I have been online for a total of 12 years now, so many of you have known me for a long time! I love cooking and I am neither a chef nor a professional cook; I simply have a passion for cooking, preparing, and inventing new dishes. The recipes you find on my blog are not copied, and even the photos are not downloaded from the internet; they are my own.
