The Anchovy Pie is a traditional recipe of Italian cuisine, particularly from the Abruzzo region, but with some variations from other cities in central southern Italy.
A recipe not to be confused with the Gaeta pie which includes many other ingredients.
This is made in Abruzzo with some variations from city to city, but with one thing in common, it’s super delicious!
We can serve it as a second course, but also as a main dish.
I must say this was the first time I made this recipe, but I was very satisfied and above all, everyone was happy at the table.
Once out of the oven, the advice is to leave it out for about ten minutes and then serve it.
The ideal would be, in my opinion, to serve it with a bit of green salad, even though it already has potatoes as a side dish, but I think it goes well.
You can also prepare it in the morning, put it in the fridge, and then bake it for dinner… obviously, this is a tip for those who work and might find it useful to prepare it in advance.
Let’s prepare the recipe together and if you like, send me the photos and I will post them on my Facebook page with your name.

- 2 tbsps chopped parsley
- 2 fresh garlic (chopped or grated)
- 3 tsps extra virgin olive oil

Preparation of the Anchovy Pie
Clean the anchovies well by gutting and boning them, wash and let them drain.
In a bowl, mix the breadcrumbs with the oil, parsley, chopped garlic, and a pinch of salt, mix well and set aside.
Grease a round baking pan of about 11 inches in diameter.
Meanwhile, peel the potatoes, wash them, and cut them into slices about 1/4 inch thick, arrange the potato slices slightly overlapping at the bottom of the pan, grease them with two drizzles of oil poured in a thread…..
…. season with salt, overlap a layer of anchovies with the back facing up.
Season again with a drizzle of oil and a pinch of salt, sprinkle the surface with the seasoned breadcrumbs covering the entire surface.
Bake in a hot oven at 356°F for about 30 minutes or until golden brown.
