Delicious Stuffed Braid

The delicious stuffed braid is a simple dessert but with a filling that captivates you at the first bite.
A dessert that over the years I have made several times and in this latest version, I propose it to you with a filling of extra dark chocolate, but if you want you can fill it with Nutella.
Another variant could be to reduce the dark chocolate into a rather firm ganache, which would help to keep the filling even creamier.
There are no words to describe the stuffed braid, as I’ve used Nutella as the filling, making the result super delicious!
Like all leavened products, which I particularly love, I believe they need more attention, but they give so much satisfaction and with an exceptional result.
This leavened dough in particular, even though I’ve used little yeast, usually doesn’t need more than 2 hours of rising, but the delicious snack is guaranteed.
For the dough, I helped myself with the Panasonic Croustina bread machine, but you can use a stand mixer, or do it by hand.
If you make any of my recipes, send me the photos, and I will publish them on my page with your name.
All that’s left is for you to try my recipe, and I’m sure you’ll like it!

Delicious Stuffed Braid
  • Difficulty: Easy
  • Cost: Medium
  • Rest time: 3 Hours
  • Preparation time: 45 Minutes
  • Portions: 6 people
  • Cooking methods: Electric oven
  • Cuisine: Italian
  • Seasonality: All seasons

Ingredients to make the Delicious Stuffed Braid

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp fresh yeast
  • 7 tbsp butter
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 7 oz 75% dark chocolate (or 12 oz of Nutella)
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 2 tbsp sugar crystals

Preparation of the Delicious Stuffed Braid

  • Insert the blade into the bread machine basket, add the dry ingredients first and then the liquid ones.
Place the basket in the machine and start the kneading program, which in this case is number 17, but if you have a different machine, choose a kneading-only program, mine lasts 45 minutes.
Once the dough is obtained, transfer it to a large bowl and let it rise for about 2 hours covered.
Once the dough is obtained, proceed as described in the final preparation.

  • In the stand mixer bowl, add the milk and yeast, let dissolve, then add half the flour and knead.
Add the sugar, butter, and remaining flour, knead the dough well for about ten minutes to obtain a well-kneaded dough.
Transfer the dough to a large bowl and let it rise for about 2 hours covered with plastic wrap.

  • Once risen, transfer the dough to a work surface, shape it into a ball again, divide it into 3 equal parts and create 3 balls.
Let rest for about 30 minutes, then shape each ball into a strip of dough long enough and about 1.5 inches wide, spread pieces of extra dark chocolate or Nutella along the center of each strip for the entire length.

  • Close the dough strips well, creating three strands from which we will form a braid, sealing the ends well.
Place it on a baking sheet covered with parchment paper and let rise covered for about 1 hour.
After this final rise, brush the braid with milk and sprinkle with sugar crystals.

  • Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F for about 40 minutes, checking the cooking.
