Savory Christmas Tree with Pizza Dough

Savory Christmas Tree with Pizza Dough, made with a pre-made pizza base but great to make with your favorite base as well. Simply roll it out thinly and then create the balls to fill later. I chose to make it with a pre-made base to cut down on preparation time and provide a valid alternative for those who, like me, can spend little time in the kitchen but still want to create a good and tasty idea. In this recipe, I used classic pizza ingredients, tomato, oregano, and mozzarella, but you can stuff the balls with different flavors and make multiple trees with different ideas. Ingredients

  • 1 roll pizza dough
  • 10.6 oz tomato sauce
  • as needed smoked scamorza cheese (small ones will also work when halved or cubed)
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil (plus extra for the pan.)
  • as needed dried oregano
  • as needed fine salt
  • 3.5 oz pizza mozzarella (cut into julienne strips)

Steps

  • To make the Savory Christmas Tree with Pizza Dough, first roll out the pizza base and cut it in half.

  • Cut each half into similar strips.

  • In a bowl, combine the tomato sauce with oregano, salt, and oil and mix. Set aside a small bowl of seasoning for the final part of the recipe.

  • Fill each strip with a teaspoon of tomato sauce in the center.

  • Place a piece of scamorza cheese on the tomato sauce.

  • Fold the pizza strip into a pouch.

  • Brush the bottom of the mold with a little oil and arrange the balls according to the base of the tree. Garnish with the remaining tomato sauce. Let the base rest covered for 30 minutes.

  • Finish with the julienne mozzarella.

  • Bake in a preheated convection oven at 392°F for 20 minutes or until the pizza is fully cooked. You can prepare this recipe in advance and cook it immediately, then warm it up when ready to serve. It will be a delightful centerpiece and a delicious appetizer for the Christmas holidays.
