Grandma’s Apple Cake with the Jam Secret

The traditional recipe of Grandma’s apple cake contains only simple ingredients. It’s very easy to prepare, but it has a little secret that will make it super soft: apricot jam.

Ingredients for Grandma’s apple cake

  • 1.1 lbs Apples
  • 1 Lemon zest (grated)
  • Half Lemon juice
  • 3 Eggs
  • 1 pinch Salt
  • cup Sugar
  • 3.5 tbsps Apricot jam (or blended canned peaches)
  • cup Corn oil
  • cup Milk
  • 2.5 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 packet Baking powder
  • 1 pinch Cinnamon powder
  • as needed Granulated sugar (for garnish)

Preparation of Grandma’s apple cake

  • Peel and cut the apples.

    Half should be diced and the other half sliced into thin wedges. Add the lemon juice and let sit. Meanwhile, prepare the batter.

  • Beat the eggs with the sugar until very frothy.

  • Add the apricot jam and then the corn oil.

  • Continue mixing with the electric mixer and add the milk and a pinch of salt.

  • Next, add the sifted flour and baking powder.

  • Continue mixing and finally add the diced apples, leaving aside the wedges.

  • If desired, add crushed nuts and cinnamon at this point.

  • Mix everything with a spatula and pour the batter into the greased and floured cake pan.

    Arrange the apple wedges in a circular pattern on top. Sprinkle with granulated sugar.

    This will create a sweet crust on the surface.

  • Place in a preheated oven at 356°F for about 40-45 minutes.

Add 50g of crushed walnuts or hazelnuts to the batter and also sprinkle them on top. It will be the best apple cake in the world!
