The quick potato gateau is a clever, tasty recipe that is easy and fast to prepare.

It’s a smart dish because it uses instant potato flakes, the dehydrated mashed potato mix, instead of regular potatoes, allowing you to save the time needed to cook and mash potatoes while still achieving a perfect and flavorful result in only thirty minutes.

Ingredients

  • 9 oz instant potato flakes
  • 4 1/4 cups milk
  • 3.5 oz grana (grated)
  • 3.5 oz pecorino (grated)
  • 1 clove garlic (optional)
  • 1 egg
  • 3.5 oz mortadella (or another cured meat of your choice)
  • 3.5 oz smoked provola (or another melting cheese of your choice)
  • breadcrumbs
  • butter
  • salt

Preparation of the quick potato gateau

  • Bring the milk to a boil with a pinch of salt, remove from the heat and pour in the instant potato flakes.

    Stir well.

    Transfer the obtained mashed potatoes to a bowl, add the grated cheeses and the chopped garlic clove (optional) and mix thoroughly.

  • Add the egg, incorporate it into the mixture and adjust the salt.

    Butter a baking dish and sprinkle it with breadcrumbs.

    Pour in half of the prepared mixture, level it and fill with mortadella and smoked provola (or with cured meats and cheeses according to your taste).

    Cover with the remaining mixture, smoothing the surface.

  • Sprinkle with a little more breadcrumbs, add a few knobs of butter and bake in a preheated oven at 392°F in conventional/static mode for fifteen minutes.

    Switch to broil/grill mode and cook for a few more minutes until golden.

    Remove from the oven, let cool slightly and serve your quick potato gateau.
