The scent of tradition: my homemade strawberry jam.
There is nothing that evokes the warmth of a welcoming kitchen like the sweet and slightly tart scent of strawberries simmering slowly on the stove.
Making homemade strawberry jam is not simply following a technical procedure, but a true ritual that celebrates the rhythm of the seasons and the beauty of simplicity.
When the first baskets of ripe, juicy strawberries appear at the market, the instinct to turn them into something lasting becomes irresistible.
It is a way to capture the light and flavor of spring and keep them safely in a glass jar, ready to be released during a winter breakfast or to enrich a special dessert.
Looking at the thick texture and deep ruby-red color of this jam, you immediately notice the difference from industrial products: here there are no artificial thickeners or synthetic flavors, only the fruit pulp slowly transforming, concentrating its natural sugars into a symphony of taste.
Slow cooking is essential to obtain that perfect creaminess that coats the palate without becoming overly cloying.
It is a preparation that requires time and dedication, but rewards with an authentic flavor, capable of bringing back childhood memories, when grandma prepared preserves for the whole family and the scent of sugared fruit filled every room of the house.
Imagine it spread generously on a slice of homemade bread still warm, perhaps with a smear of salted butter to create an unforgettable contrast, or used as the beating heart of a crumbly shortcrust tart, where the oven’s heat further enhances its aromatic notes.
It is a versatile ingredient that can turn even the simplest snack into a gourmet experience.
Bringing a jar of jam made with your own hands to the table is an act of love for yourself and your loved ones, an invitation to slow down and enjoy the genuine pleasures that only homemade cooking can offer.
Choosing firm, fragrant fruits at the right degree of ripeness is the first step to an excellent result that will make your pantry a little treasure of sweetness.

Ingredients to make Homemade Strawberry Jam
- 6 2/3 cups strawberries (about 2.2 lb)
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar ((300 g))
- 1 apple (about 5 oz (140 g))
- juice of one lemon
Tools
- Jars glass
Preparation of Homemade Strawberry Jam
Wash the strawberries, remove the stems, cut them into pieces and place them in a saucepan…
…then peel the apple, remove the core, cut it into pieces and add it to the strawberries.
Add the sugar and the juice of one lemon and begin slow cooking, stirring occasionally.
It will take about two hours; if you want it smooth rather than chunky, blend it with an immersion blender and finish cooking for a few more minutes, just long enough to reach the desired creaminess.
Bear in mind that after cooling, the jam will become much thicker.
Once cooked, put it into previously sterilized glass jars, screw the lids on and place them upside down.
This will be fine if you plan to use them within a few months; otherwise, immerse them in water in a saucepan and boil them for about 15 minutes, counting from the first boil.
After a full boil, leave them in the pan until cool.
