Outydse Soetkoekies (South Africa)

Outydse soetkoekies translates to ‘old-fashioned sweet cookies’ and they are traditional spiced cookies from South Africa.

They are generally enjoyed as everyday cookies with a cup of tea, but are also particularly popular during the Christmas season.

In South Africa, Christmas is celebrated outdoors, and traditional braais are held, the South African version of a barbecue, which comes from the Afrikaans words “braai” meaning “to grill” and “vleis” meaning “meat”.
