The Gers Ogaily, or gers ogili, or gers ogely, or qurs uqaili, or qirs agili, or qarqa aqili, is a traditional Kuwaiti dessert.
The name comes from the past when it was prepared in metal pots with a central cavity, and it had the shape of a puffy disk, hence the word “gers”, while “ogaily” also stands for “aqal”: a black cloth headpiece worn by men.
It is now made using bundt or cupcake molds.
It is characterized by the flavor of cardamom, saffron, and toasted sesame.
It is usually consumed with breakfast during Eid or during Ramadan, and accompanied by hot milk.
It can be served as a dessert accompanied, in winter, by coffee and tea (chai) with milk (chai haleeb) or without, along with a chocolate bar during family gatherings.
