The walnut and chocolate cake is a rich, aromatic, and delicious dessert that will conquer you at the first taste. The recipe is very easy; in no time, you’ll have a super soft cake perfect for breakfast. If you want to serve it as a dessert, just add a spoonful of semi-whipped cream, and you’ll have a very delicious dessert.
The combination of walnuts and chocolate is definitely one of the best out there. These two ingredients are the perfect base for cookies, cakes, and muffins, but walnuts are also great in savoury dishes like my walnut pork tenderloin or the bread crostini with robiola, pears, honey, and walnuts.
To prepare the walnut cake, you will need classic ingredients such as eggs, sugar, milk, and flour to which you will add the flavors, chocolate chips, and walnuts; the procedure is simple and fast, and in a few minutes, you will have a rustic dessert to enjoy with steaming black tea or a good sweet wine.

Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 cup walnuts (finely chopped)
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 3 eggs (medium)
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/3 cup vegetable oil (or 1/2 cup of softened butter)
- 1 packet baking powder
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1/3 cup dark chocolate chips
- 1/8 cup dark chocolate chips
- 1/4 cup walnuts (coarsely chopped)
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 tablespoon sweetened cocoa powder
Tools
- 1 Bowl large
- 1 Electric whisk
- 1 Food processor
- 1 Springform pan 9-inch diameter
Method
Place the walnuts in the food processor and pulse intermittently, for 5 or 6 seconds at a time, until you get a flour-like consistency, and set aside.
Crack the eggs into a bowl (they should be at room temperature), add the sugar, and beat with the electric whisk until you get a light and frothy mixture.
Add the milk and vanilla.
Sift the flour with the cocoa and baking powder, add them to the beaten eggs incorporating with the whisk, then add the ground walnuts and oil (or softened butter); you will get a smooth and homogeneous mixture. Add 1/3 cup of chocolate chips.
Transfer the batter into the greased and floured pan with sweetened cocoa, sprinkle the surface with chocolate chips and coarsely chopped walnuts, and bake in a preheated static oven at 350°F for about 40/45 minutes.
Do the toothpick test to check for doneness. Adjust according to your oven’s power.
The walnut and chocolate cake is ready, take it out of the oven and let it cool. Transfer it to a plate and serve.
