DRIED ORANGES WITH OR WITHOUT BAKING

Dried oranges in the oven, naturally or with a dehydrator: many ways to dry oranges and some ideas to use or enjoy them. You can decorate a homemade cake, adorn your Christmas tables or tree, enhance your gift packages, or enjoy a fragrant snack to munch on. Additionally, you can create a delicious dessert by glazing them with dark chocolate, or flavor a hot herbal tea.

Remember to choose organic citrus fruits whose peel is untreated since we won’t be removing it, and it will be eaten whole.

DRIED ORANGES PREPARATION

Slice the oranges at a thickness of 1/8 inch.

  • Pat the oranges dry with paper towels.

  • If using the oven: place the slices on a baking tray lined with parchment paper and bake for about three to four hours at 195°F. Flip the orange slices every thirty to forty minutes.

  • If using a dehydrator: follow your appliance’s instructions, but it generally takes about 15 hours at 158°F.

  • Naturally: it takes about 10 days thanks to the heat of a radiator. It’s a very simple method that also gives a pleasant scent to the house.

  • If using the microwave: cook at 700 watts for five minutes.

Adriana’s Advice

Do not slice too thick. Be careful with microwave cooking as they tend to burn quickly.
