A true magical potion in the kitchen. Homemade vanilla extract is easy, much cheaper than commercial extracts, and incredibly fragrant: when you use it, it will feel like you’re in a pastry shop.
This simple recipe is made cold and above all 100% natural. A 4.2 oz bottle lasts many months considering that only a couple of teaspoons are needed per dessert.
Perfect gift idea for lovers of homemade sweet recipes. You can use it to prepare creams, cookies, and desserts of all kinds. Once you’ve tried it, you won’t give it up!
It keeps at room temperature. A couple of teaspoons replace one traditional vanilla bean. Use Bourbon, Tahiti, or Mexican vanilla: plump, full pods, not too dry.

VANILLA EXTRACT INGREDIENTS
- 4.2 oz vodka (or rum, grappa, or cognac)
- 5 vanilla beans
Tools
- 1 Glass Bottle
PREPARATION OF VANILLA EXTRACT
Wash the glass bottle and sterilize it in boiling water, in the microwave, or in an air fryer.
Slice the vanilla beans lengthwise, scrape the seeds with a knife, and place them in the bottle.
Cut the beans into pieces, add them to the bottle, and fill with the chosen spirit (35-40 degree proof). PLEASE DO NOT USE PURE ALCOHOL IT IS TOO STRONG!
Seal, shake, and let it infuse for at least a month before using the vanilla extract. The longer it rests, the more aromatic and fragrant it will be.
Adriana’s Advice
Shake the bottle before using it. The alcoholic part evaporates during cooking. In the case of cold desserts, this does not happen, so it’s better to use pure vanilla.
