I had seen these mini cookies on Instagram and they immediately captivated me with their simplicity: small delicious bites, perfect for winter. I decided to make them myself, but with an extra touch: I added orange zest and juice to scent them and make them even more irresistible. Thus were born these mini orange and chocolate cookies, fragrant, scented and perfect to give as a Christmas gift or to enjoy next to a steaming cup of hot chocolate on cold winter afternoons. 🎄🍊🍫
After baking, I thought of decorating them with dark chocolate swirls and tiny pieces of candied orange peel….slurp!

Still on the subject of cookies to give as gifts, here are some more ideas just below:

- 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 3 tbsp butter (cold, cut into pieces)
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
- 1/4 cup dark chocolate (coarsely chopped)
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 orange (organic, zest only)
- 1 tbsp orange juice (juice only)
- 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
- to taste dark chocolate
- to taste candied orange peel
Tools
- Baking Sheets
- Parchment Paper
Steps
Mix flour, powdered sugar, grated orange zest, juice, and salt in a bowl.
Add cold butter and work with fingertips until a sandy mixture is obtained.Add chopped chocolate and mix gently
Form balls of about 10 g and place them spaced on a baking sheet with parchment paper without pressing them down too much.
Place the sheet in the refrigerator for 20-30 minutes.Bake in a static oven at 340°F for 15/18 minutes, but always depending on the home oven.
Let the cookies cool on the sheet for 15 minutes before moving them.If you want to decorate them as I did, melt some dark chocolate and after dipping a fork, let it fall randomly on the mini cookies and then add some pieces of candied orange peel to enhance the flavor.
They are delightful and also make great gifts for the upcoming holidays!
Enjoy your meal! Annalisa
Storage
Store the cookies in an airtight container or tin box for 7-8 days.
