Sandwich Star Cake for New Year’s Eve

Sandwich Star Cake for New Year’s Eve, a layered savory cake, delicious, tempting, and irresistible, without cooking.

To make this cake, I used sauces, cold cuts, tuna, and a bit of carrots and lamb’s lettuce to enrich it.

It’s a really simple appetizer to make and is also perfect as a centerpiece.

Everyone can take the part they prefer.

It takes about 30 minutes to make, and if you want to bring it to a New Year’s Eve party or New Year’s Day lunch, I’ll leave you a couple of tips for transport.

First of all, get a very large cutting board or plate, they must contain the star which is about 12 inches long and wide.

Then get a cover to cover it, even those made of cloth will do.

If you have them, you can also opt for large round cake containers.

You can also place the cake on a disposable rectangular tray and then cover it with plastic wrap, but in this case, I recommend adding sauces and garnishes at the last moment.

To make this cake without waste, you can use the soft crustless bread found on the market, the square kind.

Below I leave you some ideas to enrich the table with easy and tasty appetizers.

  • Difficulty: Very easy
  • Cost: Very cheap
  • Preparation time: 30 Minutes
  • Cooking methods: No cooking
  • Cuisine: Italian
  • Seasonality: Christmas

Ingredients

  • 1.2 oz pesto without garlic
  • 0.7 oz spreadable cream cheese
  • 3 slices bread (square, soft for sandwiches)
  • 2 slices mortadella (with chili (or traditional))
  • 3 slices bread (square, soft for sandwiches)
  • 1.4 oz walnut kernels
  • 5.6 oz cream cheese
  • 4 slices salami (mine is Abruzzo spianata)
  • 5.6 oz tuna in oil
  • 3.2 oz cocktail sauce (or homemade mayonnaise)
  • 3 slices bread (soft, square for sandwiches)
  • 3 slices bread (soft, square for sandwiches)
  • 7 oz Russian salad
  • 4 slices prosciutto crudo, gambuccio
  • 0.7 oz carrots (cut into julienne or as you prefer)
  • 1.1 oz lamb's lettuce (corn salad)
  • to taste walnut kernels
  • to taste pumpkin seeds (already shelled)

Tools

  • 1 Blender
  • 2 Small bowls
  • 4 Spoons
  • 1 Fork
  • 1 Cutting board
  • 1 Knife

Steps

  • To make the Sandwich Star Cake for New Year’s Eve, first, combine the creamy spreadable cheese with the pesto, which we will take from a portion of the cheese used for the walnut sauce.

Mix and spread a generous layer of sauce on the first layer.

Lay the mortadella slice making sure it doesn’t spill out from the sandwich.

Cover with a second slice, spread a second layer of sauce, lay the mortadella again, and place the third slice.

On this, we will only put a bit of pesto.

Cut the square into 4 triangles.

  • For the white sandwiches, blend the cream cheese with the walnuts until you get a rather smooth cream.

On the first slice of bread, spread the cheese and lay two slices of salami (I chose the Abruzzo spianata which suits the recipe well).

Repeat the operation on the second layer and finally here too, cover the last slice of bread with the sauce.

Also divide this part into 4 triangles.

  • For the pink sandwiches with tuna, proceed by filling the first slice with a layer of cocktail sauce, fill with half of the drained tuna, close with a second slice of sandwich bread and again put the remaining tuna.

As with the other sandwiches, close with the last slice of bread and spread a layer of cocktail sauce.

    Divide into 4 triangles.

  • Proceed as with the previous sandwiches, alternating layers of Russian salad with prosciutto and dividing the square into 4 triangles.

  • Proceed to form the star by joining or alternating the triangles as desired.

  • Garnish with julienne carrot strips in the center and lamb’s lettuce to cover the cuts.

Finally, sprinkle walnut pieces and pumpkin seeds over the sandwich triangles for garnish.
