Tools
- 1 Pizza Cutter
- 1 Parchment Paper

Steps
To make the savory puff pastry spiders, first unroll the sheet of puff pastry and divide it into 9 similar rectangles using a pizza cutter or a sharp knife.
I chose to use large hot dogs; if you opt for this solution too, cut them in half.
At the ends of the hot dog pieces, cut what will be the legs using scissors or a knife, cutting all the way to the center of the hot dog.
Wrap each hot dog in a rectangle of puff pastry, securing it tightly.
Then pull the puff pastry towards the center freeing the spider legs. This operation will also give more body to each piece.
In a small container, beat the whole egg until it forms a cream.
Brush each spider with the egg. This operation will instead make each piece more colorful and crispy.
Garnish each spider with sesame seeds. Alternatively, you can omit them or replace them with poppy seeds.
Create the eyes by adding two pink peppercorns. Again, you can substitute with anything edible suitable for this decoration.
Bake in a preheated fan oven at 356°F (180°C) for 30 minutes or until golden brown, making sure the puff pastry is well cooked. It’s advisable to place the tray in the middle of the oven for more even cooking. Let them cool slightly before enjoying them with your favorite sauce.
FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
How can I replace the egg for the final garnish?
With extra virgin olive oil or sunflower oil, although they will be less colorful. In sweet recipes, you can use milk as a substitute.

Can I prepare them in advance?
Preferably only a few hours in advance, to not lose the crispiness of the puff pastry.
