Tuna with Potato Crust

Tuna with potato crust, an easy-to-prepare main course perfect for Christmas Eve or New Year’s Eve.

A truly delicious main course, ideal for other occasions too.

Tuna is a bluefish primarily living in ocean waters.

Fresh tuna is rich in omega-3s that help prevent cardiovascular diseases and is one of the most commonly used fish worldwide.

For this recipe, you can use fresh tuna steaks of at least one inch or frozen tuna.

The important thing, in the latter case, is to thaw the tuna correctly, in the refrigerator for at least 12 hours.

Tuna is one of the ingredients I prefer to use during the holidays.

Below, I’ll leave you some easy and quick recipes to prepare, perfect for setting the holiday table.

  • Difficulty: Very Easy
  • Cost: Economical
  • Preparation time: 30 Minutes
  • Portions: 2
  • Cooking methods: Electric Oven
  • Cuisine: Italian
  • Seasonality: Christmas

Ingredients

  • 2 steaks tuna (fresh or frozen)
  • 7 oz potatoes
  • 3 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 3 pinches fine salt
  • to taste pepper

Tools

  • 1 Knife
  • 1 Cutting Board
  • 1 Baking Dish
  • 1 Bowl

Steps

  • To make the Tuna with Potato Crust, first slice the potatoes very thinly.

You can use a kitchen knife or a classic mandoline to create potato slices.

Rinse under cold running water and place them in a bowl covered with plenty of salted water for 30 minutes.

  • Meanwhile, marinate the tuna for about 30 minutes in an emulsion of three tablespoons of oil, two pinches of salt, and one of pepper.

Turn it occasionally to flavor it well.

  • Drain the potatoes and pat them dry with a clean towel.

Grease the bottom of a baking dish (mine is 8×8 inches) with a bit of emulsion and layer the potatoes to cover the entire base.

  • Place the two tuna steaks and season with the remaining emulsion.

A tip: if you want to use less oil, set aside some emulsion for the final potato seasoning.

  • Cover with the remaining potatoes, drizzle a little oil over their surface, season with a pinch of salt, and bake in a preheated fan oven at 355°F for 25 minutes.

  • Then switch the oven to grill mode and cook for another 5 minutes.

Let it cool slightly before serving.
