Strawberries & Chocolate Porridge: the “Glow” Breakfast that’s Good for the Heart and Mood
Among the many types of nutritious and filling breakfasts, the real turning point came with Tiramisu Porridge and Orange & Chocolate Porridge. But it’s with the Strawberries & Chocolate version that I reached the peak of good mood first thing after waking! Besides being incredibly delicious, this combination is a real wellness concentrate to start the day in the right gear.

Why this porridge breakfast is a winning choice for your health
The main ingredient, oats, is a whole grain rich in soluble fiber, particularly beta-glucans. These fibers promote intestinal regularity, creating a prolonged feeling of fullness that helps keep blood sugar levels stable. In addition, it’s a naturally balanced breakfast: complex carbohydrates, a share of healthy fats (from the chocolate) and a good protein contribution. Result? Slow-release energy that translates into no mid-morning hunger pangs or energy crashes.
The pairing of strawberries and chocolate is not only for the palate but a real antioxidant booster:
strawberries are very rich in them, able to protect cells and immune defenses; dark chocolate (choose at least 70%) helps heart health and reduces stress, making waking up much more pleasant. Moreover, if you use certified gluten-free oats, this porridge will also be suitable for people with celiac disease.

The secret for an irresistible consistency
The trick to loving porridge is to play with contrasts. If the “mushy” effect of oats has always bored you, add creaminess with melted chocolate or a crunchy element like sliced almonds for an extra dose of omega-3! The freshness of the fruit balances the density of the chocolate, creating a perfect equilibrium that will make you forget past failures.

  • 3 strawberries
  • 1/2 cup whole rolled oats
  • 2/3 cup oat milk
  • 1 tbsp agave syrup
  • 1.5 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tbsp oat milk
  • 2 tbsp sliced almonds
  • 2 strawberries

Tools

  • 1 Knife
  • 1 Blender
  • 1 Saucepan
  • 1 Wooden spoon
  • 1 Bowl
  • 1 Spoon
  • 1 Small bowl

Steps

  • Start by transferring the whole rolled oats into a blender. This step is optional — you can also leave them whole — but it will make your tasting experience much more pleasant by improving the texture.

  • Then run the blender for a few seconds until you obtain a flour-like consistency.

  • Wash the strawberries, remove the stem and cut them into regular cubes.

  • Place the strawberries in a non-stick saucepan, add the agave syrup and simmer for approx. 3 min over low heat.

  • They should look quite soft visually.

  • If necessary, add a tablespoon of water so they don’t dry out too much.

  • Now also add the oat flour and pour the milk in a thin stream, bring to a boil and let simmer on low heat for another 4 min, stirring constantly with a wooden spoon.

  • Turn off the heat immediately without letting it dry too much otherwise, once cooled, it will become too thick and porridge-like (which we absolutely want to avoid!).

  • Meanwhile, in a small bowl, work the cocoa with the oat milk for a few moments. I recommend sifting the cocoa beforehand for a better, lump-free texture.

  • You should obtain a smooth and creamy little sauce. If it’s too thick add 1 tablespoon of oat milk at a time and adjust to the desired consistency. If it’s too runny, add the tip of a teaspoon of cocoa at a time so you won’t overshoot.

  • You’re ready to assemble your porridge: in a bowl create a first layer with 2–3 tablespoons of oats. If it has dried too much, add a tablespoon of milk to soften it.

  • Slice into rounds, cubes or slices (as you prefer) two strawberries and place them over the first layer of oats.

  • Garnish with half of the cocoa cream and repeat the operation to make a second layer, covering with more oats, more strawberries and more cream until all ingredients are used.

  • Serve immediately, garnishing with a handful of sliced almonds on top.

  • And voilà… the strawberries & chocolate porridge is ready to enjoy.

  • Enjoy your meal from La Cucina di FeFè!

Storage

👉The strawberries & chocolate porridge is best enjoyed immediately, which is why I recommend preparing it the same morning.
If you prepare it in advance, it keeps in the fridge for 2 days in a glass jar with an airtight lid, but add the chocolate and fresh strawberries only at serving time. Oats continue to absorb liquids even while resting, so if the porridge becomes too thick, add a splash of hot water or hot plant-based milk and stir vigorously.

👉If you prefer it hot, use the microwave for 30 seconds or warm it in a saucepan over low heat. Then garnish.

Tips, notes, variations and suggestions

🟣* If the cocoa cream is too bitter: add 1 teaspoon of agave syrup or honey or another sweetener to taste and mix well! Tasting is essential to find your perfect balance on the palate, but remember: use sparingly because this kind of breakfast aims to reduce added sugars (you’ve already added some to the base of your porridge and strawberries also contain natural sugars).

🟣If you love the strawberry & chocolate pairing, try the “White” Version: replace the cocoa cream with melted white chocolate (30 g) and add a pinch of grated lemon zest for a very fresh flavor.

FAQ (Questions & Answers)

  • 1. Can it be made with cow’s milk?

Absolutely yes. You can also use water for a lighter version, or coconut milk (almond and coconut pair divinely with strawberries and chocolate).

  • 2. The cocoa cream is too bitter. How do I make it sweeter?

If for your palate the cream is too bitter, just add 1

  • 3. Why did my porridge become gummy?

You’ve probably stirred too little or used too little liquid. The secret is the proportion 1:3 (one part oats, three parts liquid) and low heat.
