- Difficulty: Easy
- Cost: Affordable
- Preparation time: 20 Minutes
- Portions: About 20 hearts
- Cooking methods: Oven
- Cuisine: Italian
Ingredients
- 2 rolls puff pastry (Rectangular)
- 14 oz ricotta
- 10.5 oz cooked spinach
- 7 oz tomato paste
- to taste salt
- to taste milk
Steps
To prepare the savory puff pastry hearts, first get the ingredients ready for the fillings. I decided to fill them with ricotta and spinach and with ricotta and tomato. Divide the ricotta into two bowls, add the spinach to one and the tomato paste to the other. Add some salt to both bowls and mix.
Unroll the puff pastry rolls and use a heart-shaped cutter to get 40 hearts; leave 20 hearts whole and use a smaller heart-shaped cutter to cut out the center of the remaining 20 hearts. Naturally, the number of hearts you get will depend on the size of the cutters you use.
Place a cut-out heart on top of a whole heart. Repeat for the remaining hearts.
Brush the top layer of puff pastry with milk and prick the inside with a fork.
Fill some hearts with ricotta and tomato, and others with ricotta and spinach.
Bake the hearts in a preheated oven at 392°F for about 15-20 minutes until golden. Remove from the oven and let cool on a rack.
